End of support for 1024-bit RSA certificates.

I understand that at the end of 2013 all web browsers and Certificate Authorities (CAs) will no longer support 1024-bit RSA certificates. Would that impact any of our internal (in-house) web applications that use 1024 bit certificates? And if yes, are there any patches or registry fixes that we can implement in order to continue using 1024 bit certificates internally.
