Unable to authenticate using wired 802.1x

Hello,

We have a system with a lot of OS hardening, and Im at my wits end about this:

My cisco-switch authenticates fine over radius.

My win7 client which is NOT domain-connected(RDP-klient only) is configured to use 802.1x to authenticate using a certificate on a smart card. This is to receive a IP-address through DHCP.

When the default user logs on locally on the client the network icon starts spinning, and a notification box appears requesting additional information. If I click on that I get a prompt titled:

-----------------------------

Windows Security

Network Authentication

Please enter your smart card PIN

------------------------------

There is no text-box, and the OK-button is greyed out. Im suspecting some Local Security Policy must be too tight.

Can anyone point me where to start looking?
