Deny List Folder persmissions

I have a simple SQL database which enables users to access specific files residing on a network location which will primarily consist of microsoft office documents.

I wish to prevent the users from accessing these files directly through explorer / searching the network location. It is not a shared location but one in which everyone has read/write access as they will need to modify and also potentially delete files, but it is important this is done through the database. Have looked at NTFS persmissions and denying the list functionality but this doesn't seem to be appropriate because of the need to read/write/modify/delete requirements. From the looks of ABE this only applies to shares or could this be applied to network locations as well to restrict users?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
