We have a shared folder on a server where a scanner puts files. Users access that share from their systems. We encrypted the folder. The scanner could still create files in the folder but then when users tried to open them they would get an error about not having permission. Huh?
The only way I could fix this was to have the scanner access the share as a higher level user. Then the people at their systems could open the files. It was when Adobe Reader would try to open them they would get the error. They could open the folder and see the file but not read them.
I can think of various reasons this might happen as a permissions problem but I can't imagine why just encrypting the folder would change things to cause this. The encryption was done on the server while logged in as administrator. The users accessing the share from their systems could still work in the folder, for instance make a test txt file and open and change it. They could even delete the scans that couldn't be read. They could also read scans made days past. But new scans gave this error, until I changed the login the scanner used. I'd really like to understand this to avoid similar problems.
Thanks.
