Why does Microsoft Excel and Word need FULL folder access to be able to modify a file content?

Hi everyone,

I have an issue with Microsoft Excel giving me "sharing violation" error. It seems to be a file permission issue. I have given FULL access to file for the specific user but on the folder level the user has all access but Change Permission and Delete. This type of permission works for a .bmp file opened using MS PAINT or a .qbw file using QuickBooks but when I use Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel then it fails.

What is the workaround for this? I can't give user "List Folder" access on the top folder. So, is there something that I can fix this in a different way?

Here is my tree example:

Q:\                                              => Users Access = No list folder

Q:\Sales                                      => User Access = No list folder

Q:\Sales\purchases.xls               => User Access = FULL access

I have also found this disappointing piece of information which confirms my doubts that MS Office is not capable of separating file from it's mother folder: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891636?wa=wsignin1.0

Thanks
