Root CA migration error Event ID 7023

Hi All,

We have 2008 R2 Domain, with 2003 R2 root CA which is a domain member not DC.

2003 R2 Root CA is domain member.

We installed 2008 R2 OS and installed root CA but this server is part of workgroup NOT domain.

Note 2003 Root CA NetBIOS name is different from 2008 R2 root CA server but CAname is same.

Installed 2008 R2 server with CA role used existing CA cert and restored CA database fine but the last step is to restore

registry from source root CA to 2008 R2 Root CA. I edited reg file to to update valueCAServerName  to 2008 R2 NetBIOS name.

Now I am not able to start CA service:-(..

My 2003 R2 root CA which is a domain member to 2008 R2 Root CA which is workgroup migration path is not supported ???

Event ID 7023

The Active Directory Certificate Services service terminated with the following error:

Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied.
